How do you
make your sushi necklaces?
I make my sushi necklaces by hand, piece by piece out of polymer clay, usually Sculpy or Fimo. Each one is a tiny sculpture I make one by
one.
First I mix batches of color from the colored clays, calibrating the closest match to the actual sushi. I usually work
from pictures. I also create specific textures using different colors of custom mixed clay. For instance, to make the tamago (egg
sushi) I mix up 2 colors of yellow with streaks of white. For the wood grain on my Sushi Combo, I mix several custom gold colors
together by rolling thin layers and bending and twisting theclay.
Next I prepare the rice and nori (seaweed) to put
together the sushi. I make each sushi much like the sushi chef makes them. I start with pieces of the ingredients and roll or press them
together, then if necessary, wrap them in nori. I cut the California Roll beads from a long roll of the ingredients wrapped in
rice.
Last, I pierce each bead with a wire tool to make a neat hole. Then I bake them in a little oven for 15 minutes.
When they are cool I string them on strong poly beading thread or fine chain and attach the clasp. |
